Victoria Beckham Bans Size 0 Models

Victoria Beckham may be a very tiny size herself, but she has banned size 0 models from modeling her new fashion line.

In a bizarre twist, the size zero ex-Spice girl, who has been nicknamed ‘Skeletal Spice’ because of her twig-like frame, has declared she does not want women like herself, to model her denim range.

According to The Mirror, Posh has hired a voluptuous Brazilian beauty Daniella Sarahyba to represent her brand.
Daniella’s website describes the 21-year-old as having ‘a perfectly sculpted body with the curves and meat in all the right places’. Unlike Posh, who is famous for wearing jeans that could fit a seven-year old.
Victoria recently said: “I know quite a few models and they actually eat, they’re just naturally thin girls.”

A source said: “Victoria wants to give out a positive image that you don’t have to be ultra skinny to look good.
“Many of the models on the catwalk make young girls feel insecure about their own bodies.
“Victoria doesn’t want to be accused of giving young girls a complex about their image and putting pressure on them to be as skinny as her.”

Good for Victoria: she’s not letting her own weight issues spill out into her business. That’s a good thing and sounds quite sensible to us.

Feather light Sony G11 Notebook

Laptops, Announcements No Comments »

Sony has really outdone themselves with the new light weight Sony G11. Somehow it really reminds me of those IBM T60 notebooks with similar curves and all this is happening in the UK now.

Today Sony announce the G11 notebook, a light, portable PC perfect for business travellers. The G11 contains the latest Intel® Ultra-Low Voltage (ULV) processor and Gigabit Ethernet for super-fast network connections. It also has a remarkable battery life of 9 hours, long enough to keep you going through the typical working day.

Alongside the G11 Sony are launching upgrades to the AR30 and TX5. The VAIO AR30-Series is the latest version of the first notebook to showcase an integrated Blu-ray Discâ„¢ optical drive. Created to be the ultimate Full HD entertainment notebook, the flagship VGN-AR31S offers users the ability to edit their personal HD video content and then burn it onto a Dual Layer 50GB Blu-ray drive as well as all the benefits of Blu-ray playback.

The VAIO TX5-Series ultra-portable is in a class of its own. The carbon fibre construction provides great strength and keeps the weight down to just 1.25kg, while the ultra-low voltage platform enables users to work for up to 7 hours.

The VAIO G11-Series is designed specifically for business travellers who need a no hassle notebook that can be used anytime, anywhere. Every aspect of its design is geared towards making it the perfect business tool that’s light, durable and above all reliable.

Weighing just 1.13kg including its battery, the VAIO G11-series notebook is extremely portable and hassle-free. The power supply itself is smaller than a pen and weighs a mere 170g. Carbon fibre laminate has been used for both the casing and lid, resulting in an unprecedented combination of strength and portability. Exhaustive drop and pressure testing resulted in a final design capable of withstanding a fall from up to 90cm1. In fact, with HDD technology, if the machine is dropped while powered on, the hard disk senses the acceleration and automatically locks down its drive heads in a fraction of a second to prevent damage and data loss.

The G11 contains the latest Intel® Ultra-Low Voltage (ULV) processor, with its groundbreaking combination of performance and minimal power consumption, the G11 has a remarkable battery life of 9 hours - long enough to keep you going through the typical working day. The G11 also offers security features such as fingerprint recognition to replace the unsecure user passwords and Trusted™ Platform Module (TPM) hardware-level protection for files, passwords and encryption keys.

The 12.1-inch XGA resolution screen is designed for business, with a 4:3 aspect ratio rather than widescreen format. Therefore applications such as databases or ordering systems designed for the classic screen format are displayed properly, without distortion. The G11 also features Gigabit Ethernet for super-fast network connections, potentially saving time in the office and an integrated multi-format Dual Layer DVD±RW/RAM optical drive, sparing users the inconvenience of having to carry an external unit with them. As expected from a machine designed specifically for professionals, the VAIO G11-Series is supplied with Windows Vista™ Business as standard.

Windows Vista Arrives in Stores

windows, windows+vista, bill+gates, microsoft, microsoft+windows+vista, windowsvista No Comments »

Windows VistaWindows Vista, the new operating system from Microsoft, is now available for consumers. Microsoft has unleashed a Windows Vistamarketing barage to promote Vista. Bill Gates even made a special appearance on the Daily Show With John Stewart to promote the software launch. The software was tested by 5 million beta testers. Fifty families also lived with Windows Vista for two years — the goal of this project was to help make the software more user-friendly.

The new software requires a significant amount of memory and hard drive space so not all computers may be able to handle Windows Vista. The specs can be found here on Microsoft’s Windows Vista website. If you are upgrading you should get the Premium version because it has more advanced media features.
The premium version includes the Media Center for Vista that the Basic version does not have. An Ars Technica article calls the Basic version “decidedly feature light.” Extreme Tech says that “editing movies and saving them to DVD is reserved for Premium” so if that’s something that interested you — many people are editing their own home movies these days — then you want Premium. The Windows Vista Launch Guide from IGN explains the differences between the packages. To use the premium version you will need at least 1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor, 1 GHz of system memory and 40 GB of hard drive space. There are special graphics requirements as well. Many people may wait until they buy a new computer to own Windows Vista. In fact, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer predictsthis is what many people will do.

HowToWeb.com has some Windows Vista Links that provide more information and BloggersBlog.com has a list of Windows Vista blogs that provide updates, tips and news coverage about Microsoft’s latest operating system. ReadersRead.com also has a helpful post about a batch of Windows Vista books that have been released by computer book publishers to coincide with the launch of Windows Vista.

Zeno is a Zit Killer

Announcements, Household, Handhelds No Comments »

Zeno is a Zit Killer and it won’t burn you. If you have to deal with “moderately inflammatory acne” on a regular basis, this gadget might be a cool idea: called the Zeno, it’s a device that uses a heat shock treatment to kill the bacteria so the skin can heal. It doesn’t sound like an instant cure (but then again, is any medicine really instant?) - you’ll need to apply the heater on the business end of the Zeno for several minutes and you may need to bring the noise a few times a day before the zit bites the dust.

JLo and Beyonce Wear Right Hand Rings for Charity

jlo, jennifer+lopez, beyonce, celebrity+jewelry, right+hand+rings, diamons No Comments »

Rings worn by Beyonce and Jennifer Lopez at the Golden GlobesIt turns out that many of those fabulous diamonds worn by celebrities at the Golden Globes were in support of the Raise Your Right Hand Ring for Africa campaign, which raised $30,000 for three projects that will directly benefit the people and communities in Africa, according to the Diamond Information Center (DIC). The actresses who wore a Diamond Right Hand Ring included: Beyonce, 2007 Golden Globes nominee for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy; Actress/Singer Jennifer Lopez; and Patricia Arquette, 2007 Golden Globes nominee for Best Performance by an Actress in a Dramatic Television Series. A statement by the DIC explains the charitable promotion and the right hand ring phenomenon.

“Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez and Patricia Arquette are all shining examples of classy, stylish, smart and sophisticated women,” said Diamond Information Center Director Sally Morrison. “They represent not only the glitz and glamour of Hollywood, but they are superior role models, especially because of their humanity and compassion for those in need, caring for the world we live in and helping to raise money for valuable projects in Africa through the ‘Raise Your Right Hand Ring for Africa’ program.”

Beyonce, who wore a spectacular 25-carat grey, yellow and white Diamond Right Hand Ring by diamond jeweler, Lorraine Schwartz is contributing $10,000 to Link-A-Child (linkachild.org), a project Beyonce personally visited. Link-A-Child is a not-for-profit organization that serves to care for the more than 7 million child orphans and motherless babies in Africa who are abandoned. The organization connects children to people who take care of them, and to potential corporate and individual donors who provide aid to orphanages in all 26 states in the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria. Link-A-Child’s belief is that, through generating proper public awareness, everyone will share in the moral vision to help rehabilitate these children by showing their support and ensuring they receive basic needs such as food, clothing, shelter, healthcare and education to give these children a proper chance for a prosperous life and future.

Jennifer Lopez, who also wore a 30-carat yellow Diamond Right Hand Ring by Lorraine Schwartz, has not yet disclosed which project her $10,000 will support. Details will be available shortly.

Patricia Arquette wore a Platinum, Onyx and Diamond Right Hand Ring by diamond jeweler to the stars, Neil Lane. Patricia is donating the $10,000 generated to CARE International (care.org), a leading humanitarian organization fighting global poverty. The organization places special focus working alongside poor women because, equipped with the proper resources, women have the power to help whole families and entire communities escape poverty. Women are at the heart of CARE’s community-based efforts to improve basic education, prevent the spread of HIV, increase access to clean water and sanitation, expand economic opportunity and protect natural resources. CARE also delivers emergency aid to survivors of war and natural disasters, and helps people rebuild their lives.

“It’s a beautiful feeling to wear a magnificent Diamond Right Hand Ring and at the same time support these extremely important African causes,” said Lorraine Schwartz, diamond jeweler based in New York.
“I love being involved in the glitter and glamour of Hollywood during award season,” said Neil Lane, owner of Neil Lane Jewelry in Los Angeles. “Being able to participate in a program that gives back makes what I do with diamonds all the more rewarding.”

Over the course of the last four years, the Diamond Right Hand Ring has come to represent a woman’s independence and prosperity and a symbol of a woman’s brilliant accomplishments, personal success, freedom and power in the U.S. Raise Your Right Hand Ring for Africa is part of the diamond industry’s ongoing efforts to raise star-powered support for important projects and causes that are vital to the continued prosperity of key diamond-producing nations around the world, particularly southern Africa.

The DIC has invited Hollywood’s leading female nominees and presenters to proudly wear a Diamond Right Hand Ring on this year’s red carpet for any of the 2007 awards shows: Golden Globes, 49th Annual GRAMMY Awards or Academy Awards. A $10,000 donation will be granted in their name to a special project or cause of their choice benefiting Africa. The diamond industry hopes Hollywood’s leading ladies will help generate up to $100,000 in donations for important social projects or causes in Africa during the 2007 award season.

We love diamonds, right hand rings and worthy causes. So, we heartily approve of the whole project. And we’re sure that JLo will pick a good charity.

Spanish Mannequins Gain Some Weight

fashion, mannquins+spain, anorexia, handless+mannquins, mannquins, fashion+models No Comments »

Handless MannequinSpanish store mannequins are about to gain some weight.

Spanish shop window dummies have been ordered to fatten up after the government and big fashion chains agreed that female dummies should wear size 10 clothes or above.
The agreement between Spanish retail chains such as Zara and Mango and the country’s health ministry came as the fashion trade agreed to a series of measures designed to combat anorexia.

Stick-thin mannequins will be withdrawn from store windows over the next few years as those capable of wearing clothes bearing labels marked European size 38, equivalent to the British size 10, take their place.

American mannequins, on the other hand, have been getting skinnier and skinnier. Which is irksome, but not nearly as upsetting to us as the new trend of having mannequins with no hands or feet. Barney’s, in particular, seems to love the handless/footless woman look. What’s this all about? Some kind of homage to the ghastly film Boxing Helena? A statement that women are slaves to fashion and have no feet to run away? It’s all very disturbing.

Nokia new N800 Internet Tablet

Announcements No Comments »

Nokia new N800 Internet Tablet is sure a looker compared to the older Nokia N770. Nokia officially unveiled the N800 Internet Tablet at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas on Jan. 8, 2007 and launched an N800 area on its US website. More powerful and refined than its predecessor, Nokia’s 770 Internet Tablet, the N800 is a reasonably small device that’s finely tuned to give users access to the Web, POP3 and IMAP e-mail, RSS feeds and, to a limited extent, instant messaging and voice over IP. It also plays audio and video, and performs enough tricks for tech-savvy mobile users.

Differences between N800 and 770 tablets

As had been anticipated, the N800 bears a high resemblance to its older sibling, the 770. Key changes include: addition of a VGA-resolution web cam; microphone moved to a more phone-friendly position; two full-size SD card slots, instead of a single RS-MMC slot; built-in stereo speakers, instead of a single speaker; scroll rocker for web page scrolling; redesigned top-mounted buttons and 5-way cursor pad; built-in stand; and a few mechanical tweaks.

One frequent complaint with the earlier 770 tablet was the device’s limited internal memory capacity of 64MB RAM and 64MB available flash. The N800 ups the RAM to 128MB, and increases the flash memory to 256 MB (with around 80 MB reportedly occupied by the device’s standard Linux software stack), according to Nokia’s director of open source, Dr. Ari Jaaksi. Another significant change is that instead of the 770’s single RS-MMC (reduce-sized MMC) slot, the N800 provides a pair of full-sized SD card slots, which Nokia says are usable with SD, MicroSD, MiniSD, MMC, and RS-MMC cards, in capacities up to 2GB. Cards such as RS-MMC require the use of a small adapter.
